Leipzig-based AR agency Sensape has been developing interactive brand experiences based on augmented reality and artificial intelligence since 2015. The AI reliably recognizes external characteristics of people such as age, gender, emotions or 3D position. Now, it is also used to recognize people in video footage, enabling keying without the need for a professional camera setup and green screen.
"Normally, the process of video keying is very complex and takes a lot of time. Working with chromakey also becomes exhausting once the video background is not even or poorly lit. With AI-based keying, we now get around these problems," says Sensape's Michael Lehnert. The agency uses its technology primarily for projects with sports clubs. The "Sensape Allstars" solution enables fans to virtually meet the club's stars and boosts sales and attendance figures as well as social media reach through shared photos of the fans. The video footage of the stars required for this can now be captured with little effort and without professional software, technology or green screen. The AI recognizes the stars and cuts away the background in real time. "Production time can thus be reduced to a fraction. For our customer Paris Saint-Germain, we were able to realize keying in a tenth of the normal time," Lehnert continued.
